October’s Employee Spotlight of the Month: Community Connection Coordinator Jenny Mann
Join us as we pay tribute to the incredible staff, we have here at the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities (BCBDD) through our appreciation series called “The Employee Spotlight of the Month!” Every month, we will spotlight a new employee so that we can share with the community the wonderful things our employees are doing every day!
Congratulations to Jenny Mann, October’s Employee Spotlight winner! Jenny began her career as the Program Director at the YMCA. While working at the YMCA, Jenny volunteered at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League.
“At that point, I knew I needed to change my career and work in this field ,” Jenny said. “In 2013 I started working for Hamilton County DD as an Activity Supervisor at one of the county’s day programs. I always knew I wanted to work for Butler County and was hired as an SSA in 2016 and in 6 months moved into the position of Community Connection Coordinator.”
One of Jenny’s co-workers said she has a heart of gold whose dedication extends well beyond her work at the Board.
“Every single weekend, she gives up her precious time off and spends her time volunteering at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields,” Jenny’s co-worker said. “She’s done it for years! She is constantly advocating for people with developmental disabilities in big and little ways.”
Jenny says that one of her favorite parts about her position at the Board is that it’s so diversified.
“Not only do I get to work with the individuals that we serve but I also get the opportunity to work with other staff in other departments,” Jenny said. “I love going out into the community and talking about the great things the Board is doing. Working with families in the Future is Now program is one of my favorite things. Guiding these families and helping them realize that there is hope is something I truly cherish.”
Those that work with Jenny say she is a positive force at the BCBDD and works hard to not only be friends with those at the office but also gets to know them on a more personal level.
“She’s always coming up with ideas on how to get people connected and working together,” Jenny’s co-worker said.
Jenny says she loves working at BCBDD because of the passion the staff has.
“The staff is aware of our mission and tries to carry out that in every way possible,” Jenny said. “I love planning special events like the Community Recognition Awards and our All-Staff event. This allows our whole team to work together and to bring great experiences to our community and staff.”
Although Jenny has many favorite BCBDD memories one of that she will never forget happened during this year when she witnessed one of the individuals at the Speak Up self-advocacy group come out of this shell.
“He started out not talking or engaging in any of the conversations, but slowly he has really started to talk and interact with others,” Jenny said. “Others really should get into this field because it not only fulfilling but allows you to help others live their best life.”
Jenny, we are so incredibly lucky to have you on the BCBDD team!
