DSP of the Month: Alexis Moore
Congratulations to Alexis Moore, January’s Direct Support Professional (DSP) of the Month!
Alexis is currently a DSP at Miracle Health Agency LLC but has been in the health field for over 10 years.
“I started out as a state tested nurse aide (STNA) and then received an opportunity to work in the community of developmental disabilities (DD),” Alexis said. “Shortly after I started out as a DSP, I then was able to work my way up to Director. I began to work with the Miracle Health (MH) team on behalf of my company Guiding Angel DD Consultant Services during the summer of 2023. MH hired me to help establish, build, maintain systems that would allow them to be and stay in compliance with all DD rules and regulations.”

Jennifer McCullum, who is the guardian of one of Alexis’ individuals Melissa, said that Alexis has not only gone above and beyond as a DSP for Melissa over the past 3 month, but she also helped find additional staff for Melissa as it has been difficult to do so in Reily, Ohio.
“If you know anything about that area, it has been almost impossible to find people who want to work in that area, since it is not Hamilton or Cincinnati,” Jennifer said. “Alexis took on our case, knowing it would be challenging and while we have been trying to hire staff over the last 2 1/2 months, the two of us have come together to make sure Melissa has staff 24/7 (except when at day program). Alexis has jumped right in with me to fulfill her hours as we still continue to work on finding the write staff for Melissa.”
Alexis says that thus far all the memories that she has made as a DSP and with Melissa are endless.
“I love what I do,” Alexis said. “Every individual that I am honored to serve allows me to grow and apply what I learned to become better for the next individual. I’m absolutely humbled any time that I get to work with an individual and they defy all odds that are set against them. How great is it knowing that the work that a DSP does has a direct effect on how a person thrives in this world!”
Jennifer said that one of Melissa’s biggest goals is to grow and be as independent as possible and that Alexis has made this happen by continuing to work on Melissa’s goals by listening to her and never second guessing anything.
“She has been amazing at bonding with Melissa,” Jennifer said. “She has also been amazing at listening to me, as the guardian, as to what my goals are for Melissa, like becoming as independent as possible, and not only helping to implement them but training new staff how to do this as well. Alexis knows how to move forward with Melissa’s goals and put them into place!”
“To me being a DSP is the essence of what we do,” Alexis said. “We serve and advocate for those that have a hard time doing it for themselves. I love what I do because it gives me purpose and it gives others hope. Anyone with a caring heart should allow themselves this opportunity as it allows any human being to understand the true meaning of humanity.”
