November’s Employee Spotlight of the Month: HR Generalist Pam Bowling

Congratulations to Pam Bowling, our Employee Spotlight for the month of November!

Pam has worked for the BCBDD for 24 years. Pam started her career as a receptionist/secretary with the Administration office and in 2013 she transitioned into the role of a Payroll Administrator. In June of 2024 Pam was promoted to HR Generalist.

“My entire career with the Board has been in the Administration department,” Pam said. “I have worked under 4 superintendents and 1 executive director until a superintendent was appointed. In my time with the Board the Admin department has been in 3 different locations. I have been blessed to work with some of the most amazing people. They have become more like family than coworkers!”

Sam Ledford Executive Assistant to the Superintendent said Pam is a superhero and has taken on her new role with grace and positivity.

“She is not only learning a multitude of new things, but she is teaching all of us many of her old tasks,” Sam said. “She’s patient and kind. She goes out of her way to accommodate people, and I am grateful to be her co-worker.”

Pam loves her new position but said her favorite position at the Board was her payroll position because she loved being able to help staff with their payroll needs.

“When I started in that position, we were still using paper timecards,” Pam said. “Accruals were printed and stapled to paper checks every other week. We’ve come a long way!”

Angie Bryson HR Manager said she is very impressed with Pam in learning her new role as an HR Generalist.

“She is also mentoring others with Payroll and Accounts Payable duties and does so with a smile on her face,” Angie said. “Butler County Board of DD is very lucky to have her here and I appreciate her very much!”

Sarah Keller Finance Coordinator agreed that Pam is not only striving to be the best she can be in her new HR Generalist role, but she is also going above and beyond to assist others in the agency with any questions they have.

“Pam’s work ethic is impeccable,” said Sarah. “Pam’s compassion and attitude has shown that she cares not only about her role but also others in the agency and assisting them to learn their new roles. Pam has the patience of a saint and has assisted me so much with learning payroll. If I had to pick a team member I would pick Pam any day, she is AMAZING. Pam is a true asset to the agency! Thank you, Pam, for being amazing!”

Although Pam said she has made so many great memories at the BCBDD, one of her favorites was when she joined her two co-workers, Cathy Howell, and Sharon Sheet to plan the Community Recognition Dinner.

“We did it all, collected nominations, mailed invitations, chose the venue, manually created, and printed programs,” Pam said. “We even had to create assigned seating! It was a lot of work and some late nights, but I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything.

Pam said one thing that reminds her how lucky she is to work for the BCBDD lies right inside of the Janet Clemmons Center.

“When we moved into the JCC building I noticed one day as I was walking in that there is a pillar that has a perfectly formed heart in the concrete,” Pam said. “Every time I walk into this building, and I see that heart it reminds me of how blessed I am to work for such an amazing agency.”
