How to Get Services

Where to start?

In order to receive services from the Board of Developmental Disabilities, first an individual must qualify for services. If you live in Butler County, you can begin the eligibility process for children ages 3 and above by calling (513) 785-4683. For infants and children aged 3 and under, contact Help Me Grow first, at (513) 785-6850.

What are the steps in determining eligibility?

We created this fact sheet to help explain the eligibility process. There are two main steps to eligibility: one: diagnosis verification, and two: administration of a determination instrument or a level of care assessment. Both steps are explained on the eligibility fact sheet.

When is eligibility re-determined?

We comply with state rules that specify that eligibility must be re-determined when a person turns 3, 6, and 10 years old. It may also be done when a qualifying diagnoses changes, functional skills change, there is a break in services, or on an annual basis. If you move to another county in Ohio, your eligibility status may be re-determined.

What happens if I am found eligible?

After you or your family member is notified of the eligibility status, you will be referred for services available through the Butler County Board of DD. Some of the most common services are Support Coordination, Family Support Services and Family Focus.
